Fund-Raising Responsibilities

FundRaising2

Bethesda-Chevy Chase Crew is a club sport of Montgomery County Public Schools and, as a club sport, it receives no funding from B-CC High School or the county school system. The purchase and maintenance of equipment, coaches' salaries, athlete scholarships, Thompson Boat Center fees and insurance come from parent dues, donations and fund-raising events in the community. 100% team participation in the major fund-raising events planned for each season (specifically, the car washes, the Erg-a-thon and the Wreath Sales) is essential in running a safe and competitive rowing program for our athletes. This year's team fund-raisers include the following activities and events.

Car Washes: Fall 2009 & Spring 2010
Each team member is expected to participate in the car washes scheduled for this season year. Dates of the car washes are posted on the list serve and the Web site. The car washes will be held at Getty Gas Station on River Road. For more information contact: Laura Merchant - laura_merchant@ita.doc.gov

CraZy Shorts: Fall 2009 & Spring 2010
At the Erg-a-thon on October 11, 2009 and the Washington Metro Interscholastic Rowing Association Championship Regatta on TBA, the team is selling Val's Crazy Shorts from Canada. For more information contact: Gail Parks at gparks@iediscovery.com.

Erg-a-thon: October 11, 2009
Each team member is expected to raise at least $200 through family/business/community sponsorship and/or rent-a-rower activities. Forms are available on the Web site. Team goal is $8,000. For more information contact: Jim Arbury at jarbury@nmhc.org

Wreath Sales: mid-November through mid-December 2009
Each team member is expected to sell 20 holiday wreaths. Forms are distributed at the general meeting for new and returning B-CC Crew families and are available on the Web site. Team goal is $18,000. For more information contact: Jamie van der Vink at jamievdv@verizon.net.

Restaurant Nights: Fall 2009 & Spring 2010
Each season local restaurants graciously agree to donate a percentage of their proceeds one evening to the team. Dates and locations are posted on the list serve and Web site.

Team Banner: January 2010
A 6' x 10' B-CC Crew banner provides local businesses and individuals an opportunity of fantastic visibility for their community support of the rowing program at B-CC. This full-color banner is prominently displayed in several high-profile Washington area venues including the Georgetown, Occoquan and Anacostia waterfronts and downtown Bethesda and in Philadelphia and other away regatta sites during the 2009-2010 season. Team goal is $5,000. For more information contact Gail Parks at gparks@iediscovery.com.

Parent/Alumni Row: Fall 2009 & Spring 2010
The team's first annual Parent & Alumni Row is the fall at Thompson Boat Center. A second Parent/Alumni Row may be scheduled in the spring. With a donation to B-CC Crew, adults will have a chance to slide into the seats of an 8 and row with team members on the Potomac River. For more information, contact Susan Valenstein at svalenstein@comcast.net.

Boat Campaign: On Going
The Boat Campaign, an annual request to parents in the fall, is the major source of funding for capital expenses.
