
B-CC Crew Team Coaches’ Bios

Chris Graves
Head Coach, Coach, Women's Team
Chris has been B-CC Crew's Head Coach since 2000. Under Chris' outstanding leadership, B-CC Crew has developed into a highly competitive and well respected scholastic rowing program at not only the regional, but also, the national level. The team has grown from 20 students to more than 65 high school athletes and is the largest co-ed sport at B-CC High School. As head coach, Chris has led the team to medal bronze, silver and gold at the National Capital Championship Regatta and The Stotesbury Cup Regatta and bronze at the Scholastic Rowing Association of America's Nationals. Chris is also the coach for the varsity women's team. A Towson University graduate, he was a varsity rower for its crew team. After graduation, Chris rowed for the Puerto Rican National Team and at the 1998 Caribbean and Central American Games. He has rowed for several prominent club teams including the Baltimore Rowing Club and the Capital Rowing Club. Chris is certified as a U.S. Rowing Association Level III coach. In Fall 2000 and 2001, Chris coached the Thompson Boat Center rowing program. In Spring 2001, The Washington Post recognized Chris as its All Met Rowing Coach of the Year for the Men. Chris and his wife, Carrie, and new daughter, Colby, live in Silver Spring, Maryland. He oversees the audio visual services for the Hyatt Regency Bethesda.

Dan Engler
Coach, Men's Team
Dan returns for his second year as coach of the men's team. Prior to coming to B-CC, Dan ran the National Cathedral School's crew for four years and saw the success of earning medals at the National Capital Championship Regatta and the Stotesbury Cup Regatta. Prior to NCS, Dan coached the novice women at Ithaca College and the novice and varsity men at Skidmore College, earning multiple New York State Championships and medaling nationally. Dan has also coached at Thompson Boat Center in Georgetown, winning 2005 and 2006 US Rowing Club National Championship in the Junior Boy's 8+. Dan is a certified U.S. Rowing Association Level III coach and lives in Silver Spring with his wife, Krista, and young son, William. He holds an undergraduate degree in English Education and a Masters in Sport Psychology from Ithaca College and teaches English at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School.

Hank McEntee
Coach, Novice Men
Hank enters his fifth year with B-CC Crew with the men's squad. This season, Hank is coaching the novice men's squad. This fall is his fourth year running the B-CC/Thompson Boat Center Introduction To Rowing Program for the men. Prior to B-CC, he was the novice men's coach at DeMatha High School. An active rower who still competes in a single shell, (buoys beware!), Hank rowed in the sweep program as an undergraduate at Georgetown University in the mid 1970s. He coaches WeCanRow in the summers (a women's cancer survivor rowing program) at Potomac Boat Club and is an assistant coach of a master's rowing program also at Potomac Boat Club. Hank is certified as a U.S. Rowing Association Level III coach. Hank and his wife, Christine, have been married for 30 years and have two sons. He is a former chef in catering, hotels and restaurants around the D.C., area.

Nancy Faigen
Coach, Novice Women
Nancy enters her second year at B-CC Crew. After a successful season of coaching the novice men's squad, Nancy moves this year to the novice women squad. For the fall season, she will run the B-CC Thompson Boat Center/Introduction To Rowing Program for women. An accomplished swimmer, Nancy is also an experienced masters rower with a national championship in sweep (Alexandria Community Rowing) and a medal at the 2007 Head of the Charles in sculling (Potomac Boat Club). This past summer, Nancy also taught sculling at Thompson Boat Center. Nancy is certified as a U.S. Rowing Association Level I coach. She and her husband live in Bethesda. Their youngest daughter, a college senior, rows for Byrn Mawr College. Professionally, Nancy worked for nearly 30 years in the high-tech products and service industry directing several nationally recognized companies.

Chad Fleschner
Assistant Coach, Men's Team
Chad joins B-CC Crew this year as an assistant men's coach. Prior to B-CC, Chad coached the men's team at the University of Maryland for three seasons. Last summer, Chad coached the Potomac Boat Clubs' Masters Men, to numerous medals at the Schylkill Navy, IDR and Diamond State regattas. They also competed in the quarter finals at the Royal Henley Regatta (England). From 2003-2004, he was on PBC's Elite Sculling Team. Chad rowed at the University of California - Davis. After graduation, he coached the junior women's (high school) team for the River City Rowing Club in Sacramento and then the UC-Davis men's novice team. Chad is a U.S. Rowing Association Level III coach. He is a master trainer at the Washington Sports Club, and lives in Silver Spring with his wife, Karin, and their new daughter, Lena.

Megan Gordon
Assistant Coach, Women's Team
Megan joins B-CC Crew this year as an assistant coach, for the men's and the women's squads. Megan recently moved back to the Washington area after graduating from The Ohio State University where she rowed for four years and served as an assistant coach of the novice team. At Ohio State she received the "Golden Buckeye Award" as the most inspirational team-member. Her senior year, Megan was Academic All-Big Ten and was a "Big Ten Sportsman of the Year Honoree." She earned a silver medal at the 2005 Big Ten Rowing Championships. Megan also chaired the committee for coach relations and was a liaison between student athletes and coaches on Ohio State's Student Athlete Advisory Board. She rowed in high school for the Annapolis Rowing Club. Megan is a product analyst for GEICO and lives in Chevy Chase.
